Panel discussion with global perspectives on mental health issues and HIV. Two major studies are presented and outlined in detail, Dr. Edward Hammond’s groundbreaking presentation on “Persistent CSF but not Plasma HIV/RNA is Associated with Increased Risk of New Onset Depression”, hypothesizing that viral load and CNS inflammation is correlated with depression suggesting a need for CNS specific anti-inflammatory agents. Secondly, a study of “Depression and HIV as Risk Factors for Incident Heart Failure” showing an association between diagnosis of HIV depression and heart failure.
