CROI 2011: Anthony Harries on AIDS in Malawi

Anthony Harries, MD, International Union Against TB and Lung Disease, Paris, France and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK (Presented – the 5th N’Galy-Mann Lecture).

Dr. Harries provides a bit of background on Dr’s N’Galy and Mann who are so revered in the early days of HIV/AIDS. He covers some of his early days in Malawi and work in HIV/AIDS. He refers to the HIV stigma, comorbidities of HIV, lack of infrastructure, early conference advocacy, multi-country and global funding of scale-up and a durable financial response. He speaks about ways to expand access to treatment and the levels, or quality of care that is adequate, and yet affordable.
